the DIY balance :: riding without training wheels

I began writing posts on finding the DIY balance because I felt like we were spending too much time on the renovations and not enough time doing family-things. ha! Now, between renovation projects and Little League, it has become a weekend challenge to squish in a little time for other things.

This weekend, the little one and I spent some time on the hard sand, learning to ride a bike without training wheels. Two 15-minute sessions, and she almost has it. I can't wait, because frankly, I'm pooped. Running back and forth across the sand, while stooping over, providing gentle support... yeah, I'm pooped. But we're almost there. I couldn't be more proud of her.

On another note, although I mentioned that we are now proud owners of an Airstream trailer, I have yet to post photos of the beauty. Why? Because I haven't been able to get good photos of her.

The previous owners cleared most of their belongings out, but they left a few things behind: spices, a few plates, glasses,... They also left behind pillows and bedding. Thanks, but no thanks. I'll keep the salt & pepper, but the bedding is gone.

I hope to get some good shots of the Airstream when we take it camping for the first time, Easter weekend. For now, the above image will have to do.

By the way, I would welcome any and all tips you have for trailer-camping! Please share...

This post has been shared with The Good Life Wednesday linky party at A Beach Cottage.

  1. We do tent camping, not with the kids yet though. I'll try this summer.
I did a trailer trip many years ago - 3 weeks all the way up Finland and the main thing I remember was to use public washrooms whenever possible to avoid the dirty work ;) do Airstream's have a washroom?

  2. @ Giulia~
3 weeks up to Finland sounds amazing -- wow!

Yes, the Airstream has a washroom: toilet, sink, and (tiny) shower. We had first decided against using the toilet for 'you know what', but we have been hearing reports on how 'easy' it is to clean out. (You just hook it up, and out it goes...) I'll let you know. ;)

  3. How fun!! I love to camp out!! Enjoy your new 'digs'!!

P.S. It is hard to find a balance between life, love and DIY!!

  4. oh she's a beauty! looks like you guys really scored a great deal...can't wait to see more. where are you headed for your first trip?

  5. Sounds like lots of fun. A good friend of mine recently inherited an Airstream, but I don't know if they've used their's yet either.

  6. An Airstream...that is so cool! What fun you'll have. I have just been reading your house posts. We just did our house and I so wished i had started a blog BEFORE we started to sort of document our way through it. Love the curb appeal posts!

  7. Congratulations to your daughter :), it sounds like she's getting the hang of it. I love your Airstream! You bought a new one?! You'll have to tell me how the camping goes, we camped in ours a little on the way across the country bringing it home, but now it's torn apart and we haven't finished it yet. I'm so jealous you're already going will be a blast. Check out the Airstream Forums, they have tons of info. on camping on there.

  8. Wow, how fun to have an Airstream! I have an aunt that used to do tons of trailer camping, and she says it's the best thing ever - I hope you love it!

  9. I can't wait to see more of the Airstream. I'm planning to live vicariously through you. That's awesome!

  10. @ Teresa~
We're heading to Lake Lopez. We heard that Lopez was a good location to test out the new ride. ;)

  11. @ elizabeth~
It's not brand new, but yeah it's pretty new. (2003) My husband looked at everything from brand-spanking-new to gently-used to desperately-needs-rehab. I felt strongly that we didn't need another project to work. I felt like the Airstream would be a good way to get away from all the DIY. ;)

  12. I think finding the DIY balance is quite hard. Especially in spring time, because there are so much that I want to do in the garden and I often find that I do not take the time to just sit down, relax and enjoy.

  13. Airstream! how exciting! Glad you added your link to the party, thanks for joining in at Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesdays.

  14. Great post! Hope to see u at My Dream Canvas.

  15. looks like you are having fun with the trailer camping, a fun way to enjoy outdoors with a few comforts of home
