For 7's room, I found three storage options:
#1: Metal locker cabinet - $99
#2: Lack shelves - $80
#3: Expedit shelves - $60
We are probably going to go with Option #1, the metal locker.
My requirements for 7's area rug: soft texture (very important for my tactile kid!), neutral color, washable, low pile (to reduce the amount of lost Lego pieces.)
John and I were very impressed with the kitchen cabinet options. There was so much to choose from, and we are seriously considering IKEA cabinets for our kitchen. Over the next few weeks, I'll probably spend some time reading reviews of IKEA kitchens.
Last, but not least, this is what really excited John: stainless steel table tops.
Why would these table tops make my husband so happy? Because we are planning to have a roll-out table with a stainless steel top. The table will roll in and out of our island -- hard to explain. (I'll explain better in another post, with pictures.)
John has been trying to figure out how and where to have the stainless steel table top fabricated. Also, he didn't know exactly how much it was going to cost, but he knew "it wasn't going to be cheap."
We didn't buy anything, but we hadn't intended to buy anything. However, we came away with all sorts of ideas! A great success.
Option one sounds fantastic! Our little guy is into legos as well. I feel as if I am constantly stepping on one, or swiping lost parts from baby J's mouth. Ikea is just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your concern. :) We had what we have now affectionately named the "ER Cold" which was probably the worst cold of all times that we got from the daughter of our doctor friend. Being a new Mom I realized how hard it is when everyone in the house has a cold and I am the one who has to keep it together. It was a fiasco of extreme proportions only we pulled through...finally...now back to house stuff! Love the locker idea for 7. I always look at the inspiration room at IKEA that has that in it and think about our Baby's room when he is older.
ReplyDeleteI love the locker cabinet! What boy wouldn't...
ReplyDeleteLove option #1. Also like #2, but you'd probably want baskets to hide things.
ReplyDeleteI have #2 with castors from HD and it works great in our mud room.

Oh and IKEA tabletops in stainless steel are great - we used it for our last built in desk.
I am intrigued by your stainless roll out table idea. Looking forward to that post. Also...I've heard good things about Ikea cabinetry. We would have gone that route in our last kitchen remodel, but didn't have an Ikea anywhere near us.
ReplyDeleteI like the storage locker, too. I think it's very nicely proportioned. I like the Lack shelves better than Expedit, but they would be hard to keep neat!
ReplyDeleteNice work at Ikea. Looks like you have some plans rolling. I love the stainless countertops. I would love to put one in the Airstream. Can't wait to see what you're going to do with the roll out table.
ReplyDelete@ My Beautiful Life~ Legos are the #1 favorite toy around here! : )
ReplyDelete@ Heather~ Sorry about your family being so sick. I'm glad you're all feeling better.
ReplyDelete@ lemondropdreams~ I have always loved "vintage" lockers. However, they're SO much more expensive when you buy the real thing. (Plus...lead paint much?) This option is so much better.
ReplyDelete@ Giulia~ We'll probably use option #2 or #3 in our "mudroom" area. I'll have to wait to see how much room we actually have.
ReplyDeleteIt was the first time we had seen the pre-made tabletops. So stoked!
@ Carrie~ We don't exactly have an IKEA near us (anymore.) Since we were "home" (our previous town) visiting friends and family, it was a good time to go.
ReplyDeleteIf and when we go with IKEA cabinets, it will be a bit tricky making sure we get what we need. Making exchanges and/or returns will be a 4+ hour drive. UGH.
@ Kim~ Yeah, I'm pretty much loving that metal locker cabinet. : )
ReplyDelete@ Elizabeth~ If and when we get an Airstream, we will definitely be hitting up IKEA to make changes. Why not? Great style + so affordable!
ReplyDeleteWe HIGHLY recommend IKEA cabinets. They are great looking and so sturdy for the price. Anything comprable is fugly.

Here are some photos of ours. We chose the high gloss grey but the protective film is still on in the photos until we finish construction in there (floors, finishing DIY countertops and installing backsplash).
@ Angie~
ReplyDeleteThat's good to know! Your kitchen is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure we were eyeing your same cabinets -- I think they are called "Abstrakt"?? I like the high gloss grey and the high gloss in white.
